case #7: the hideout
ROB RUN base building, laundering and raids
Short answer: your base stores loot, cash and cars, launders money and runs businesses such as farms and labs. Everything is an item you place from your inventory. Laundered cash in the bank is the one thing raiders cannot take, so launder often. There is no offline raid protection beyond the defences you build.
What can you build at a ROB RUN base?
Building is "fully item-based", in Kefir's words: houses, fences, farms and garages, and objects like safes, racks, workbenches, vises, garden beds and cooking pots, are all placed from your inventory. You buy them, loot them, or take them from someone else's bag.
- Main building: starts with a laptop (Black Market access), a first-aid kit and a few cabinets. Everything else you furnish.
- Garage and helipad for extra cars and a helicopter you find or buy.
- Lift to swap car modules yourself instead of visiting a city repair shop.
- Workbenches, upgraded with modules. Players use them to open cargo.
- Farms, warehouses and laboratories for production.
Your base is also an extra respawn point when you die.
How do you launder money?
Put dirty cash on the laundering desk in your house and start it; the clean money goes to your bank account. You need a bank account first, and the ATM will not take dirty cash: launder at home, then deposit. Why bother when shops take dirty money? Because if you are raided, everything in the base can be taken, but money in the bank stays. Kefir: "laundered cash is safe from thieves." On 4 November the desk's capacity was raised a lot.
Which businesses pay?
Farms (plants grown in garden beds), labs (chemical reagents), contraband smuggling and cargo cracking. After playtest feedback, Kefir raised base business profits "several times" on launch day. A settlement's level and nearby special structures can add business bonuses.
Is there offline raid protection?
No. Kefir's answer is to invest in fortification:
- Fit security modules to your structures and install raid alerts for you and your allies.
- Raiders need breach decoders, which Kefir says "aren't bought off a shelf", so they choose targets carefully. Looking poor helps.
- Wiping a base off the map takes an "extremely rare, loot-only item".
- Surviving structures can be rebuilt, and a clan defends better than any module.
Players add: close gates and doors behind you (houses are in PvP zones) and take valuables and car keys with you when you log off.
Can someone steal your car?
Not the car itself, unless they take the whole house: a base raid that wipes the property seizes everything on it, including furniture, structures and parked vehicles. But anyone can lockpick your trunk at any time, anywhere in the city.
